Your challenge: Spice up your life

Experts and bloggers praise the benefits of trying new things. It can do everything from stimulating your creativity to helping you overcome your fears and develop a newfound skill.

It often is said that variety is the spice of life.

We’re asking you to prove this as part of this week’s self-care challenge.

Your challenge: Add spice to your life and do or try something new every day this week.

And it doesn’t have to specifically involve spices when you cook, unless adding cumin to your favorite dish is that something different you want to try.

Jennifer’s new activity is perfect for the summer. Hopefully Dan is ready for some competition!

You can go big or keep it simple. Here are some suggestions:

  • When you go to your favorite restaurant, try something new. Better yet: Try a new restaurant.
  • Mix up your wardrobe.
  • Try a new class or exercise at the gym.
  • Take a new route to work.
  • Grocery shop at a new store.
  • Watch your evening news on a different network. Better yet: Pick up a newspaper and read it.
  • Listen to your favorite album in shuffle mode.
  • Prepare your dinner from scratch using a cookbook or a recipe you find online.
  • Wake up 15 minutes earlier than you usually do.
  • Eat when you’re hungry instead of when the clock says you should.
  • Connect with a friend you haven’t seen in years.

What’s great about this challenge is that in addition to stimulating your brain and breaking your routine, this challenge encourages you to make some time for yourself. You deserve it!

  1. Agreed. Routines can smother life. Change it up for a new spin.
Some very good examples on how to switch things around. I like the one about watching the news on another channel–surprising how the perspective moves!
    Great post!

    • Change can be bad, but it also can be for the best. So glad you liked the news example. It truly is interesting to see how the same story is reported in entirely different ways. It gets you thinking! Yeah, it’s not always fun, but it keeps life interesting.
