A good friend recently e-mailed me this Handbook for 2011. Because it inspired me, I wanted to share some of it – along with a few additions from me, of course 🙂 My thoughts are in italics. |
1. Drink plenty of water. Yes, that is tough with MS, but we should try.
2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince & dinner like a beggar.
3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and on plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants. Or that comes from the drive-thru.
4. Live with the 3 E’s – Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy. Make that 4 E’s… don’t forget Excitement.
5. Make time to pray. Make time for yourself too.
6. Play more games. Dan & I will be burning calories by having fun using our new Wii.
7. Read more books than you did in 2010. Along with reading more, I’m trying to cut down on my T.V. viewing.
8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
9. Sleep for 7 hours. Well, at least!
10. Take 10-30 minutes to walk daily and while you walk, smile. And if you can no longer walk, find another healthy way to raise your heart rate, with a smile of course!
11. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. Or how it will turn out.
12. Don’t have negative thoughts or worry about things you cannot control.
13. Don’t overdo. Know your limits. Respect them too.
14. Don’t take yourself too seriously. No one else does. Smile and laugh more.
15. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.
16. Dream more while you are awake. Never stop dreaming or hoping!
17. Remember that envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. And probably, all that you can handle.
18. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
19. No one is in charge of your happiness except you. Especially don’t let MS have that kind of power.
20. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. Right Dan?
21. Stay in touch. Call your family often. Friends too.
22. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your family & friends will. And that’s the truth!!
23. Each day give something good to others.
24. Spend time with people and animals that make you smile.
25. What other people think of you is none of your business.
26. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
27. Do the right thing! You never know when John Quinones is watching.
28. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful. Get rid of clutter!
29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. Always does.
30. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. Be present.
31. Live like the best is yet to come.
And I hope 2011 is your best year yet!
These are great. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year. This is a great list (with additions, of couurse). I would add one thing. Find a way to be grateful for everything.
May your new year be filled with blessings and miracles.
Michael
Happiest of New Year’s wishes to you both!
Caregivingly Yours, Patrick
